Feline bladder mass

Pikachu is a MN 12 yr DSH with history of chronic hematuria stranguria and

inappropriate urination. Urine culture has been negative.

Suspect a bladder mass but there was little urine in the bladder at the time of the exam.

Pet was under anesthesia as it was not very cooperative 🙂

Attempted traumatic catheter to get sample.

Thanks for the help!

  1. Oh… Interesting! Are there
Oh… Interesting! Are there any X-rays of this bladder? I thought initially the Doppler would be a clear sign of vascular pattern but now that I’ve seen the videos it looks like the twinkling sign of calcification… Although it doesn’t really look calcified as no distal echo shadowing… In a recent case where I would swear there was a bladder mass it ended up being a very empty bladder with a huge calcified accumulation… ( but again, in that case there was apart from solid tissue-inflammation, some distal shadow like calcification). I needed to knock out the cat and fill up the bladder for seeing the lesion. But if you did traumatic catheterization you probably had a better view. I hope you get some answers from the sample taken.

  2. Older cat wiht this leaison

Older cat wiht this leaison is TCC til proven otherwise… middle aged to younger cat this is interstitial cystitis in general. Let us know what the traum cath sample says.

  3. Cytology came back as

Cytology came back as probable TCC. Retrospectively i could have filled the bladder with some saline to better outline the mass.

    Thank you for the input.
