Duodenum papilla?

Hi, 

Miss Beasley is a 4 year old FS Scottish Terrier

  • She has had a chronic history of allergies and multiple diet trials
  • Recently developed pancreatitis from the food she was on (2 weeks ago) – tested positive on IDEXX cPL (385 [0-200]).
  • Issues resolved but has returned for a relapse in vomiting (just occasional vomiting but abdominal discomfort noted)

I did abdominal scan of her

I did abdominal scan of her

  • Could not locate an inflammed pancreas
  • I did find an odd little issue with the duodenum (see images and videos)

I thought this was an abnormality but then started to see some reference images I started to question myself. Is this a duodenal papilla or something pathologic?

My main concern with her was a FB/string FB but I could not locate a specific FB during my scan. Just significant pooling of ingesta in stomach and intestines. Poor progressive motility of intestines.

    Hi, just an update. We did an exploratory and no foreign body noted. The pancreas was normal in appearance, appears the episode of pancreatitis had resolved.

    We took intestinal biopsies for a diagnosis. I didn’t do the surgery but did observe a portion of it, appears that the intestines had a few raised areas every so often (quite pronounced). I wonder if what I was seeing was GALT or peyers patches. 

    Suspecting IBD, will report back with biopsies.

    Hi, no problem. This has been a long standing case (chronic issues) and the biopsies will be very beneficial regardless to help narrow down a diagnosis for us. Gives us more confidence to utilize cerenia and other anti-nausea medications without a concern of missing a FB.
