Mucocoele?

  • 12 year female entire Sheltie, inappetance, diarrhoea, pyrexia.
  • Would you classify this gallbladder as a mucocoele?
  • I can see free fluid and steatitis caudal to gallbladder, do you think this is inflammtory or from potential rupture?
  • Also has anal gland mass with rounded and heterogenous sublumbar lymph node so difficult to know which is best treatment option.

    This looks like inflamed and possibly ruptured mucocele. It needs to come out regardless what we call it I think. Shelties are top tier on mucocele formations.

    Involved with a large retrospective study on mucoceles and these are the top 5 breeds of dogs affected: Shetland Sheepdog, Cocker Spaniel, Miniature Schnauzer, Bichon Frise, amd Beagle.

    Yes I have seen a few Shelties with mucocoeles, good to know other breeds thank you. 

    The issue is the potentially metestatic anal gland mass. Would you go to surgery regardless?

  5. Looks like two problems –

    Looks like two problems – ruptured/leaking gall bladder that requires surgery as if if can be life threatening and an anal gland mass with potential metastatic disease, which is not immediately life threatening. FNA anal gland mass and lymph node and have a discussion with the owner.
