Emerging mucocele

5 year old terrier mix I have been following with concern for emergoing mucocele.  Included are pre and 1 hour post prandial images which show some contraction in the right intercostal view post prandial.  Post prandial videos also show the material looks less inspisated, so wondering if best to just continue monitoring?  Had never seen it look so full, though, as the pre prandial images.  We have had this pet on ursodiol continuously and have been doing intermittent 2 week trials of enrofloxacin.  Owner is very concerned about morbidity with surgery, but is quite diligent in monitoring.

  1. Would recommend surgery if

Would recommend surgery if there are associated clinical signs and there is progressive increase in ALP activity, especially with an owner that is worried about the procedure.

Thank you! I’ve been talking to a surgeon we work with and he had the same input – more complications with surgery the more progressive it is so sooner is probably better than later.
