This 4-year-old MN Himalayan cat was presented for 3 days of persistent vomiting, lethargy, and anorexia. The physical exam revealed moderate dehydration and tense abdomen; the cat would not allow deep palpation. The CBC revealed moderate leukocytosis with a left shift. Blood chemistry demonstrated moderate azotemia, mild hyperglycemia, mild hyponatremia and hypochloremia. The urine was concentrated with minor proteinuria.

Small bowel foreign body in a 4 year old MN Himalayan cat
History
Clinical Differential Diagnosis
Pancreatitis, gastrointestinal foreign body obstruction, toxicity, neoplasia.
DX
Small bowel foreign body
Sampling
Laparotomy was performed with enterotomy removal of an intact acorn foreign body lodged in the distal jejunum.
Sonographic Differential Diagnosis
Small bowel luminal foreign body.
Image Interpretation
An ovoid, smoothly marginated, peripherally echogenic, strongly shadowing, luminal foreign body is present within a segment of small bowel.
Outcome
The patient recovered gradually over 5 days of postoperative intensive care and presented no further issues.
