Intramural ectopic ureter, hydronephrosis, hydroureter and ureterocele in a 1 year old MN Labrador Retriever

History

A 1-year-old neutered male Labrador retriever dog was presented for evaluation of urinary incontinence. Urine specific gravity was 1.039, and bloodwork was within reference range.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Left intramural ectopic ureter. Left hydronephrosis and hydroureter.
Normal right kidney and right ureter.

Image Interpretation

The urinary bladder, trigone and pelvic urethra presented normal wall thicknesses with anechoic urine and normal tone. The left ureter was contractile with maximum dilation of 1.6 cm. The ureter terminated in the urinary bladder with a ureterocoele-type presentation. The ureter appeared to be intramural.
The left kidney presented moderate hydronephrosis measuring 1.68 cm in width. The length of the kidney measured 7.5 cm. The right kidney was normal at 5.7 cm.

Outcome

The patient underwent curative endoscopic guided laser ablation at Animal Medical Center in NY city. The patient responded favorably to the procedure with resolution of clinical signs.
