FNA pancreas technique

Hi All

– 13 yo FS cat with severe diarrhea (recent onset) and weight loss (initially intentional with change to wet food diet but now cat keeps losing)

– Yowling and behavior changes.

– Pt is VERY fractious – required full sedation for scan.

– Images show hypoechoic irregular pancreas, scalloped and enlarged spleen, some speckling in the duodenal and jejunal mucosa, and a hypoechoic liver with multifocal hyperechoic lesions and prominent portal vasculature. We poked the liver and are awaiting sonopath cytology read. Also poked the pancreas, but it was not rewarding.

I suspect this cat has some kind of neoplasia. The liver cyto was cellular but I’d be surprised if we get the answer there.

I’m curious what you all think of the images.

I don’t FNA many cat pancreases but I did this time and could only come up with a greenish acellular fluid in the hub. Frustrating. Any tips for cat pancreas poking? When do you find it helpful in the diagnosis?

Thank you!
