Husky with swollen feet, hyperkeratotic pads, hemorrhagic diarrhea and enlarged MILN’s

5 year old MN Husky very lethargic, not wanting to walk, all four feet swollen with hyperkeratotic pads (biopsy pending), anorexic and just developed hemorrhagic diarrhea.  Blood work overall unremarkable.  Ultrasound revealed plump MILN’s, thickened colon wall, mildly thickend gall bladder wall and also appreciating a mild medullary rim sign.  Pending foot pad bx results, considering FNA of MILN’s.  Thoughts?

Interesting case Kelly.  Any other skin signs, or mucocutaneous lesions?

While waiting on a specialist opinion… with a Husky, I think of Zinc deficiency/responsive dermatosis.  But I’m not sure if that covers the GI signs as well.

Thank you, Karen. The dog was started on zinc pending the biopsies. i dont think there are other skin lesions. Hopefully the skin biopsies will be helpful – just worrisome about the lymphadenopathy

  2. Iliac LN has a reactive

Iliac LN has a reactive pattern likely owing to limb inflammation. Any liver issues that would make you think hepatocutaneous syndrome?

  3. Would considered

Would considered hepto-cutaneous syndrome as zinc responsive dermatitis is typically characterized by erythema, alopecia, scales, and crusts that primarily affecst the head without any systemic involvement. Skin biopsy should point yu in the right direction.
