Neck swelling

  • 10 year old lab presented with swelling in right submandibular region, extends dorsally to ear and crosses midline ventrally
  • Mouth exam unremarkable, not a stick chewer
  • Swelling is pitting and now lip swollen due to suspect interruption in lymphatic drainage
  • I am seeing cellulitis and what I think is an enlarged parotid salivary gland plus smaller lymph nodes
  • I have aspirated these areas
  • Can you make out what might be causing the swelling?

  1. Non-specifiic inflammatory

Non-specifiic inflammatory reaction and most likley bacterial infection. Pending the results of the FNA would do a through oral and pharyngeal examination under GA.

  2. Looks like cellulitis pattern

Looks like cellulitis pattern and reactuve LN. Consider spider bite… maybe after swallowing one:)

  3. Thank you, aspirates came

Thank you, aspirates came back as suppurative inflammation, I will update with any advancements from here.
