Ureteritis or a normal variant

A 6-year-old male cross breed cat was presented with the complain that the owner can see some transparent material in the urine. Urinary bladder was normal. When I was scanning the kidneys, I was able to see the ureters also, with some hyperechoic fat in the periphery of the ureters. Ureters could be followed to the urinary bladder on both right and left sides. No ureteroliths were identified. Subjectively the size of ureters seems normal. Mild pelvic dilation is visible. Creatinine value is normal and the patient is active in general and eating well. I am considering it as a normal variant or an isolated ureteritis which is very uncommon in feline patients. One response to “Ureteritis or a normal variant”

  1. The reactive fat looks like remodeling from prior insult. Maybe passed stones or had ureteritis in the past. I would go on urinalysis results here likely a permanent ureteral change.
